We live in a warm, tropical, environment! When we’re not busy with school, work, chores, and hour home renovations, we occasionally like to go on a family hike with my sisters, and my nieces and nephews. It’s a family bonding period, and we like to experience the sheer joy of just taking in our surroundings. Hawaii is a beautiful place and we forget that from time to time. Life and work get in the way, and we try to take time for each other, and we do this by going to the beach, hiking, and other things that we enjoy in a place like Hawaii.
Like I just said, we hike with a lot of children. We have 6 and one on the way right now, between my sisters and I. And we do everything with them. So when we go on hiking trips, we take all precautions to make sure that we are prepared with exactly what we will need at any given time.
#1 – Waterproof Hiking Backpack – It’s always nice to carry your items in a waterproof backpack. Something that you can carry on your back, and that will not get wet if it rains, or if you come across a waterfall. Which is not hard to find on hikes in Hawaii. You can find this Famebird backpack here: https://www.amazon.com/Small-25L-Hiking-Backpack-Lightweight/dp/B07DZTFS8T/ref=sr_1_2?m=A27WT3SJ8G1JH0&s=merchant-items&ie=UTF8&qid=1538548093&sr=1-2&th=1
#2 – Hydroflask full of cold water. Always have water on you! A hydroflask will keep your water cold for hours.
#3 – Snacks – this is a no-brainer. Healthy snacks such as granola bars, fruit, beef jerky, and I like to throw in gogurts, are all good to have when hiking.
#4 First-Aid Kit – Always nice to have a first aid kit filled with antiseptic, band aids, neosporin, allergy ointment, and allergy medicine, as well as tylenol, etc. Children can get into a lot of things when hiking, and there’s a lot of things to touch, see, and smell when outdoors.
#5 Pocket Knife – it’s always nice to have a pocket knife or utility tool with you when hiking. You’ll never know when you’ll need to cut a stray branch, or vine out of the way.
These are basics, but always feel comfortable with what you are bringing. Don’t overpack, because the last thing you will want is to have a very heavy backpack while on a hike.
