Recently, we decided to take a family staycation at the Hilton Hawaiian Village. We like to take staycations, and the Hilton Hawaiian Village has become our favorite place to stay when doing a staycation, and I’ll explain why.
The location of this hotel is very convenient and close to the best beaches, mall, shopping centers, and attractions on the island of Oahu. It’s smack dab in the heart of Waikiki and within walking distance are some very appealing shops and restaurants. It’s also easy to exit from, missing a lot of town traffic.
Sorry, to break it to you, but once you have children, gone are the carefree days of traveling as a couple, or pretty much going anywhere as a twosome. You have become a family, and must consider places that are family-friendly, and safe. We like the Hilton because it’s so very family-friendly, and there are accommodations for children all over the resort. They also take safety measures very seriously and there are attendants and life guards all over the pools. There is even a day camp for kids, called Camp Penguin, that you can sign your children up for, so that you and the hubby can take some time for yourselves during the day.
THERE’S PLENTY OF SUN
The hotel is placed on a very sunny beach, so there is adequate amounts of sun all year long! The location of the hotel is not in a wet, shady, dark area, it’s on the beach, sunny, nice, and warm!
WHAT WE DO
I wanted to break down the activities that we do when on a Staycation! We really just take it easy and enjoy each other’s company. Away from the hustle and bustle of life, we like to spend time really enjoying our beautiful home and enjoying being with each other as a family.
Day 1 – The first night there, we went to dinner at Hatsuhana. This is a small Japanese restaurant in the Rainbow Bazaar and offers upstairs dining for families with children. So it’s not as intimate, or quiet, but your children are welcome, the food is great, and there is still sake and wine served. The Ahi sashimi is delicious, and I also highly recommend their rainbow roll. After dinner, we went to Lapperts for ice cream since they are located not very far from Hatsuhana, and we got outside just in time to catch the fireworks show that they feature every Friday and Saturday night at 7:45pm. We enjoyed the show as we ate our ice cream, and it was extremely lovely! We ended the night at the hotel room to watch movies and relax. (Note: Hatsuhana and Lapperts are both located within the resort at the Rainbow Bazaar.)
Day 2 – We started our day with breakfast at Tropics Bar and Grill, also located at the hotel, where I had a seafood eggs benedict, that literally was so good, that I’m craving it now as I write this. They also have Mimosas, Bloody Marys, and other morning libations that are just wonderful, but note, the bar doesn’t open until 9:00am. After breakfast, we took a walk around the resort, and did a quick visit to the ABC store at the Rainbow Bazaar for some snacks, water, sun screen, and flotation toys for the pool. Afterwards, we headed to the pool, where they have a waterfall and two slides for the kiddies. There is also a hot tub, and a kiddie pool.
We ate lunch at the pool, where they have hot dogs, chips, cookies, and other poolside goodies, including a Daquiri for mom!
After the pool, we had dinner in the hotel room where we had RoundTop Pizza (also at the resort). Alan went out and got pizza and salad from Round Top, their pizza is on my top 5 pizza places that I love, for sure! We ended the night with movies at the hotel room, and it was nice to relax.
Day 3- CHECKOUT DAY! We always like to a morning swim on the day that we have to check out of our staycation and head home. So we started out with an early morning swim at the Tapa Pool that was right by Diamond Head Tower – where we were staying. For breakfast, we had Acai Bowls from Lanikai Juice, which is literally right next to the pool.
We swam for two hours, and then headed up to our room to shower, pack, and head home! Always a lovely stay, and always hard to leave and head back to the hustle and bustle of real life, but we will return for another glorious stay!
