During the holidays, we can either feel really stressed, anxious, and depressed, or try to find joy! I choose joy. I do have a lot on my plate, however, I have a whole lot to feel thankful for!
I have so much joy in my life, and more than likely, we all do, we just have to take a closer look.
Here are some ways that will help us find joy this holiday season!
Remember when we were kids, and the anticipation of Christmas was all we could feel and think about? How much joy did the days leading up to Christmas morning bring us? I like to start celebrating the holidays really early, as early as before Thanksgiving, so that I feel the joy that I used to feel as soon as Halloween was here.
- Create Mini Traditions
Find the time to create little traditions with your family. My family and I have a couple of traditions. We always watch White Christmas. We always make cookies. We always have a gingerbread house-making night. We always listen to Christmas music and decorate the house and tree together.
- Make the time to see friends and family that you haven’t seen in a while
With the hustle and bustle of daily life, it’s easy to forget that there might be loved ones that you have not seen in weeks, months, and maybe years. This holiday season, make the time to visit with people who may be missing you, and who you may be missing.
Decorate everything! Home, car, office, and your wardrobe! Make sure that you take advantage of the whimsy in the holiday season.
- Listen to as much Holiday music as you can!
The Christmas music is the best! I don’t think there is a Christmas song that I don’t like. There are some stations that will put on 24/7 Christmas music, and I love it!
- Enjoy the Baked Goods!
Can you say, TREATS? Christmastime is the best time for goodies! Holiday cookies, candies, and more! Cookie exchange parties are my favorite, and everyone is so happy about the treats, that the parties are the most fun this time of year!
- Accept that Joy will be felt because of the festivities, no matter what
Just like the Grinch, you can’t help but feel joy where ever you go, whenever you want, and however you want. It’s in the music, in the air, just everywhere.
- Don’t overdo it
Not everyone wants to hear 24/7 Christmas music, or only eat holiday goodies. If you need a break, take a break. Listen to Rihanna or Beyonce, and eat a steak.
- Remember that the Holidays will end – it’s not every day (even though it should be)
Sometimes if you keep this in mind, you will revel in the temporary-ness of it all. It won’t come till the next year, and it’s human nature to not want to miss out on anything!
- Just appreciate it
Appreciate the holiday spirit! It makes everyone a little more kinder, more joyful, and just plain nicer. It truly is a magical time of the year, and I believe that we should be this way all year! However, just like I mentioned above, it’s the temporary-ness of the season that makes us appreciate it. Just appreciate it, and don’t over-analyze it. If you over-analyze, you rob yourself of the joy of the season. Just.appreciate.it.
Happy Start of the Holiday Season!!!
