In Hawaii, we are a part of the United States, and we celebrate Thanksgiving! I’m not being sarcastic, there are a lot of people who don’t know this. Really.
As a working mom, the holidays are a joy, AND a big headache for me, because daily routines are already chaotic, and with the added pressure of the holidays, and schedules being thrown out of whack, life quickly becomes pandemonium.
Luckily, through the years, I’ve gotten the hang of “the working mom shortcut” to the holidays! The biggest secret here Ladies, DELEGATE.
When I started hosting Thanksgiving, I was taking care of it all by myself, then I realized…hey, I don’t have to! I don’t delegate much, but I do delegate, which helped 10,000%!
The turkey is something NOT to be trifled with, and since my husband is so particular about it, he’s in charge of it. I take care of most of the sides. My sisters and mom, will take care of what they have perfected over the years.
My mom, for example, will make the ham every year. We love her ham, we always have, so it was agreed that she would take care of it.
My sister #1 will make the mashed potatoes every year, because, again, she perfected it, and we love her potatoes.
My sister #2 will make, or help make, the potato salad every year, because she makes my grandpa’s potato salad, and it’s wonderful!
I will make the green bean casserole, the stuffing, the turkey, the candied yams, and in Hawaii, we always have RICE with our meals.
Items we purchase from the store: Dinner Rolls, Sushi, Poke, and Dim Sum **char siu, roast pork, etc** (yes, in Hawaii, we eat these items every year during the holidays.)
I have the easiest side recipes, and trust me, they have helped me during the years for a decade.
So, don’t judge me, but I buy STOVE TOP and I doctor it up! I add little things to it to make it taste better, starting with different seasonings and spices that will help – such as garlic salt, a little chicken broth, butter, salt, pepper, etc. We shove it into the turkey, and hallelujah, we have stuffing!
Green Bean Casserole
I have a recipe that is super easy!
2 cans Green Beans (Canned)
2 cans Cream of Mushroom Soup
Salt and Pepper
French’s Fried Onion for the top
Mix everything together, including half the bag of shredded cheese, and bake it at 350 for 25 minutes
Top with the remaining shredded cheese and fried onion topping for another 5-10 minutes.
SO EASY, but so YUMMY!
This recipe is also super easy to make!
I got my recipe at the link below, and it literally takes like an hour to prep and make! It’s super easy!
