So, many nights a week, month, year, whatever, I make Dino Nuggets and Green Beans for dinner. It’s not the healthiest, and I admit, it’s not always my finest hour. However, I would like to point out that I am a FAN of these little nuggets, and it is, in fact, boneless chicken breast! Albeit, breaded, but hey, so are a lot of great foods!
In Hawaii, we eat everything, and I mean EVERYTHING, with sticky, white rice. So I at will serve rice, green beans, and white meat chicken to my family, which I believe is better than going through the drive through and ordering happy meals, and fries…which I am totally guilty of time to time as well. Hey, it’s the working mom life.
Some tips for making these dino treats for your kiddies!
Always bake it, till crisp, warm, and brown, and splash some garlic salt for flavor! My husband likes using Mrs. Dash, and he puts it on everything. It’s good on Dino Nuggets, our favorite is the Garlic, Herb, seasoning blend.
Always try to freshen it up and make it a complete meal with some great sides and veggies! My boys like green beans, corn, and sometimes I’ll forgo the rice and do tater tots. In Hawaii, we even do sides such as Kim Chee, Poke, and Taegu! We like to mix it up here.
Also, don’t forget the ketchup, and/or BBQ sauce! These treats aren’t treats without great dipping sauces!! Make sure you have these handy when serving these dino nuggets for dinner!
At the end of the day, this is a quick, simple, and fun choice for dinner that your family will love. The kiddies will think it’s a treat, and fun to eat! And you will have peace of mind knowing that you prepared a nourishing, loving meal for your family that didn’t break your bank, or your sanity.
If you’re like me, you will feel more guilty picking up fast food, then serving a quick dinner at home. And no matter what anyone says, it’s still healthier than fast food if you serve dinner at home. Even though it’s nuggets….which I do see the resemblance to fast food, but it’s NOT fast food. Trust me. I’ve done the research.
To me, making a complete meal of nuggets with veggies instead of fries, constitutes as a healthy, homemade meal. Dinner doesn’t have to be a gourmet, organic, 5-star cuisine every night. If you have the time, and the money, then great! If you don’t, dino nuggets are a great alternative! When I get into the groove of a more time-managed life, then I will surely try organic, clean meals at home. But until then, my boys will continue to have fun with their dino nuggets!
I believe in making life easier for me, so that I am not trying to be perfect, and that my kids are seeing a more relaxed me, then someone who is trying to be and emulate someone else. I believe that at the end of the day, dinner did not take a lot of time, which means there is more time for chores, snuggling with your family, and of course, wine. (If it applies to you…which it does to me….nightly.)
