The Reality

What This Life Actually Looks Like

Here you will find almost anything you desire and often will be delivered directly to you. Condos are the primary housing — houses are rare here but can be found if you have a high enough budget. A studio condo will likely not be less than ₱25K a month and expect it to be fairly small. A 2 bedroom condo is on average closer to ₱100K a month. Everything is modern and fairly new to brand new. Security is found on every corner. Taxis and ride share cars are all over and easy to get except at peak hours or on Christmas Day types. Western branded restaurants and fast food is found here. Parks are clean. No roosters. Wild dogs are rarely tolerated — yet in the parks they allow cats for people to feed and pet. 24 hours a day you'll find people out for walks and it always feels lively. Pubs and restaurants will often be doing brisk business and an outdoor patio will feel energetic.

The malls are plentiful and every brand you seek is there. Electronics are to western standards. Here, other than the weather, incredible feeling of security and the warm people, you won't know you are not in a western city. Dating here is done typically with dating sites. The pool of available people is large because of the huge surrounding city areas. Living in these areas makes you a desirable mate on the dating websites. You may not be near a beach but if your budget permits the major airports you can take a taxi to can give you the break you like when you like to Boracay or El Nido in the same afternoon.

Ideal for people who love night more than day too. Many of the towers employ call centers with 24/7 workers who let out at different times so many restaurants at 2am on a Tuesday will still have people out on the patio or wandering around the small parks found around. These cities have a flow that directs you to central points where people typically congregate so it's easy to make new friends. There are little complaints from people living in these areas and the usual complaint is it just feels too perfect and too organized — almost unrealistic.

Eating out here is a norm for people. Often people do not cook for themselves and often these restaurants are priced to western prices — a party of two may pay $80 USD for some pasta and a glass of wine each. So cost of living is higher if you choose that type of life. The budget can be as little as ₱125K a month but limitless because of the options that are everywhere. Your electricity will almost certainly be on. Most places have backup generators. Cell phone service is a breeze with 5G speeds and fibre internet. You can purchase extreme packages if you desire. Events, plays, movies, museums are all over and ready for you to experience.

Expensive to have your own car — parking is a premium and hard to get even for a price in rentals. Most people do not drive their own car here. Budget shopping and eating can be accomplished with the right amount of discipline. Foreigners are everywhere. You can't turn your head in any direction without seeing one or many. Average Filipinos are harder to find — only upper middle class outside of the workers inside. A good decent life without too much worry is around $2,500 USD a month but you can easily live way above and could live frugal at $1,200. Top hospitals compete for your business. They welcome you immediately with practically no wait time, always staffed and always stocked. Best diagnostic equipment and compared to western countries with private healthcare it's very affordable. Doctor's visit around ₱1K and elective surgeries easily obtained. Schools are considered best in the world very close but children are rarely seen. Because it's a private township beggars are usually prevented from working there. Adult oriented clubs with bar girls are found close but not directly within these nice areas. Well lit, clean streets, no garbage, cut grass, no flooding, no troubles.

Honest Assessment

Your Honest Reality Check

  • You will live in a bubble that barely feels like the Philippines — that's the point, and it's also the trade-off.
  • Eating out at western restaurants daily will cost you $80+ per meal for two. Budget discipline is possible but takes effort here.
  • Parking is expensive and scarce. Most people don't own a car — rideshare is the way of life.
  • Foreigners are everywhere. You won't be special or exotic — you're one of thousands.

Caution

Watch Out For

  • Underestimating how fast your budget burns when western-priced dining and entertainment is available 24/7.
  • Thinking you'll integrate into Filipino culture from a BGC condo. This is international living, not Filipino living.
  • Choosing this lifestyle on a sub-$1,200 budget — it's technically possible but requires serious discipline.

Do NOT choose Metropolitan Maximalist if:

You want to feel like you're actually living in the Philippines rather than an international bubble. If your budget is under $1,200 and has no flexibility. If you need a garden or outdoor space. If you hate feeling like a tourist in your own neighborhood. If knowing your neighbors matters to you.
